EUGENE, Ore. -- Two men who claimed to be armed forced a female University of Oregon student to drive to automated teller machines where they attempted to withdraw cash from her account early Wednesday morning.

The incident started in the UO parking lot at 14th Avenue and Kincaid Street between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. Wednesday. The two men persuaded the women to give them a ride.

KVAL News received two accounts of the incident, one from Eugene police and another from an e-mail alert sent to students. Copies of both releases are posted below.

A UO campus safety sergeant told KVAL News Eugene police looked at the e-mail alert and approved it before it was sent to students.

Reporters are working to verify which account is more accurate.

According to the police press release, the woman stopped at an ATM with the men in her car, at which point one of them pressesd a hard object in her back and told her it was a gun. The men forced her to give them her ATM number, which they used to attempt to withdraw money at that location and at another location before fleeing the vehicle in south Eugene.

According to the e-mail alert sent to students, once in the vehicle, the men told the woman they had a gun and instructed her to drive to a series of ATMs to withdraw cash.

It is not yet known, based on the two accounts, whether the men initially forced her to drive to ATMs or if the victim stopped at an ATM before the men told her they had a gun. It is not yet known, based on the two accounts, whether the woman or one of the men withdrew the cash from the ATMs.

The victim was not physically harmed.

The victim described one of the suspects as a white male between the ages of 18 and 21, approximately 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-8 and between 170 and 180 pounds. He has blond hair and may have a round scar on his forehead.  At the time of the incident he was seen wearing an orange zip-up hoodie sweatshirt.

The victim described the second as a Native American male between the ages of 18 and 21 with black hair, approximately 5-foot-5-inches tall and weighing approximately 150 to 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red and black jersey-style shirt and a dark knit hat.
