Wild weather may give encore performance Wednesday

By KVAL.com staffEUGENE, Ore. - Thunder and lightning tore across western Oregon Tuesday, thrashing a bandshell in Roseburg before drenching the Eugene area with rain amidst the boom and blast of the storm. A pair of trees toppled onto the Stewart Park Bandshell, which was put up just a couple of weeks ago to get ready for the Music-on-the-Halfshell concert series that starts June 23. The storms started in southern Oregon, hitting Canyonville with heavy rain Tuesday evening. The storm continued north through Myrtle Creek, Winston, Green, Roseburg and on north into Eugene, where lightning lit up the sky and rain caused localized flooding. The gusty winds caused damage all through the area, with a pair of trees toppling onto the Stewart Park Bandshell, which was put up just a couple of weeks ago, to get ready for the Music-on-the-Halfshell concert series that is set to start on June 23rd. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday evening for central Douglas County. Lane County is under a hazardous weather outlook due to thunderstorms. |
