'A great loss to law enforcement'
MURPHY, Idaho - The body of a former Oregon lawman who was swept into the Snake River by a flash flood last weekend was found by family members Tuesday morning.
The nephew and brother-in-law of George Reed found his body Tuesday morning, about four miles away from where his car originally went into the Snake River.
Gary Aman, former Owyhee County sheriff and family spokesman, said Reed worked for Owyhee County Sheriff's Office and retired this past January.
He was a sheriff's deputy in Malheur County, Ore., from 1987 until 2002.
Harvey Grimme, Owyhee County coroner, said the cause of death has been declared as a drowning.
"It's a great loss to his family and a great loss to law enforcement," Aman said. "He was a great guy."
