MARION COUNTY, Ore. - In the effort to solve a cold homicide case, authorities on Wednesday released new information on a woman whose body was found near a fence along Interstate 5 in Marion County in 2004.

A farmer found the body in a field near milepost 268 between Woodburn and Gervais on Jan. 12, 2004. The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office estimated she had been dead for several months. Though the cause of death remains undetermined, officials believe her death resulted from homicidal violence.

The woman had a titanium orthopedic rod in her upper left leg bone that would have limited her ability to bend it, and she would have had noticeable stiffness in the leg when she walked or sat, Marion County Sheriff's Office investigators said. Detectives tracked the manufacturer of the orthopedic rod to Mexico City, where they learned it was made in 1999 and was sold to medical supply companies and public and private hospitals in Mexico. The FBI, which has aided local investigators, was unsuccessful in identifying the victim through medical records as Mexican authorities apparently did not keep records on the installation of such orthopedic rods in patients.

However, the FBI Laboratory performed a facial reconstruction using the victim's skull and developed a sketch of what her face likely looked like. (See above)

Authorities have distributed the information to media outlets in Mexico in an attempt to identify her. She was described as:

  • Hispanic or white
  • Between the ages of 20 and 35
  • Between 4 feet 10 inches tall and 5 feet 3 inches tall
  • Slightly obese
  • Brown eyes
  • Black hair in a ponytail with bangs
  • Dental work that appeared to have been done outside the U.S.
  • Purple fingernail polish on some fingernails and gold fingernail polish on toenails
  • Her clothing included: XOXO-brand denim jacket with two breast pockets and metal buttons. L.E.I-brand jeans. Loveable-brand bra, size 36C. Victoria’s Secret-brand thong, size large. Ralph Lauren-brand white ankle socks with a flag printed on the ankle portion over the words "Polo Jeans."

Anyone with information on the woman was asked to call the Marion County Sheriff's Office Detective Section at (503) 540-8007.
