Business booms in Veneta during fair

VENETA, Ore. -- Tens of thousands of people are heading to Veneta for the Oregon Country Fair. Veneta business owners hope they are ready to spend.

Lee's Hilltop Market is right across the street from the fairgrounds. Owner Susan Lee said business triples on fair weekend.

"The good thing is my business is going to be really good," said Lee.

It will be so good, in fact, that Lee hired two more people just to keep up with all the work.

It's the same story down the road at Ray's. Assistant manager Karen Edwards said their profits skyrocket during the fair. She said the most popular items are water, ice and beer.

"We stock up for the weekend," said Edwards.

The money doesn't only stay in Veneta. Every year tens of thousands of dollars raised through the fair go to help other organizations in the community. This year it will go towards arts in schools and environmentally sustainable projects.
