So ... huh.

EUGENE, Ore. -- This street sign, posted at Franklin Boulevard and Agate Street in Eugene, has people in Eugene guessing.

Among the people on the street question by a news crew Thursday, the responses included:

  • "I have no idea what it means."

  • "It looks like a tattoo."

  • "Looks confusing."

  • "Certainly not in the driver's manual when you take your test."

In effort to track down an answer, KVAL News called the City of Eugene, the city's public works, the city's traffic engineer and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

At first, no one could explain what the sign meant.

Steve Gallup with the City of Eugene Public Works figured it out:

The sign is for people trying to do a U-turn off Franklin on Onyx.

If drivers want to turn left at Onyx off Franklin, they have to actually turn right on Onyx first and go into the little park on Onyx known as the jughandle and then circle back around, wait at the light, and then go across Franklin on Onyx, then left on franklin.

Then you've finally made your u-turn.

The city put this sign in because they removed the left turn lane when the EmX bus line came in.
