Do you know the difference between flatwater, whitewater and surf? That's kayak speak for conditions when it comes to flipping, looping and pulling tricks in the water.
EUGENE, Ore. -- Kayakers stepped up to the plate for some friendly competition at Eugene's Echo Hollow Pool on Thursday, July 16th. The experienced and the inexperienced showed off their moves in the water.
This was a flat water competition which means competitors had no waves to contend with. Whitewater kayaking refers to kayaking on a river or creek where there is fast moving water.
Quinn Connell, one of the youth kayakers said kayaking in "surf" is best for turning tricks. "You can use the waves to help you roll over and spin around," he said.
Echo Hollow Pool will host other kayak events throughout the summer.
