Forest work camp: Jail complex for rent
ALMA, Ore. (AP) - Lane County is running ads, seeking to rent the Forest Work Camp near Alma for about $5,000 a month. The county closed the 100-acre correctional complex last year to save money to keep more-dangerous offenders behind bars at the Lane County Jail. The work camp is about 30 miles west of Eugene. The (Eugene) Register Guard reports the 20-year-old camp has room for 100 low-risk residents and could be used for drug and alcohol treatment. Residents could work at clearing brush or planting trees. Commissioner Bill Fleenor says it would be a benefit to taxpayers just to find somebody to maintain the property.
