Six months of showers or a pound of beef?
EUGENE, Ore. -- A pair of protesters showered nude in downtown Eugene Wednesday afternoon, not to cool off but to soak passersby with a message about adopting a meat-free diet.
The slogan on the shower stall -- set up so the two women were shielded from view below the shoulders and above the knees -- read "Clean Your Conscience: Go Vegetarian! 1 lb. of Meat = 6 Months of Showers."

"It takes over 2,400 gallons of water to produce just one pound of meat," said Amanda Fortino, the campaign coordinator for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. "So that means that you can actually save more water by not eating one pound of beef than you would by not showering for an entire six months."
