So long, Civic Stadium: Ems knock 2010 season out to PK Park

EUGENE, Ore. -- The Eugene Emeralds play six more games at Eugene Civic Stadium this season -- and probably forever.

The team announced Monday an agreement to move next season to PK Park, the new baseball stadium next to Autzen Stadium.

An official announcement of the deal will be made Tuesday.

The deal means last Saturday's home game against the Vancouver Canadians was the last weekend home game ever at Civic Stadium.

The Ems have six more home games -- three this week and three the first week of September. The final home game at Civic is Sept. 3 -- the same night as the Ducks football season opener at Boise State.

The Ems have played their home games at Civic Stadium for the past 40 years. Built in 1938, the stadium is the only known example of a Depression-era ballpark remaining in Oregon.

The Oregon State Historic Preservation Office announced last October that the stadium has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

It was designed as a joint project by the Eugene Chamber of Commerce, the Eugene Public School District and the Works Progress Administration.

The building currently belongs to the Eugene School District. A spokeswoman said no final decision about the building's future has been made.
