EUGENE, Ore. -- A man was found dead on Jefferson Street Tuesday evening, the victim of what police are calling a homicide.
The victim was pronounced dead at 5:15 p.m. Medics were on scene shortly after 5 p.m.
Police said they were looking for a white male suspect in his 20s with blond hair.
A man was taken away in handcuffs shortly after 6 p.m. No word yet on whether he was related to the incident.
Police initially said they were responding to a report of a stabbing of a 23 year old. As of 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, however, police wouldn't say whether the man was the victim of a stabbing or how he died. KVAL News has not confirmed the victim's age and identity.
Police closed Jefferson Street from 1st Avenue to 4th Avenue and asked that drivers avoid the area.
The victim was found on Jefferson Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue across from the Washington-Jefferson Park basketball court.
Police told KVAL News the man was homeless and lived under or near the bridge.
