EUGENE, Ore. -- Fans root, root, rooted for the home team at Eugene Civic Stadium wearing Eugene Emeralds regalia, Oregon Duck colors and -- in at least one case -- Boise State Bronco blue and orange as the Ems played what will likely be their final game at the aging wooden ballpark.
The Ems led 3-0 early only to run out of firepower and frames to lose 5-3 to the Volcanoes of Salem-Keizer.
At the conclusion of the game -- likely the last before the Ems move across the river to PK Park on the University of Oregon campus -- the Ems invited fans out on the field as a troop of bagpipes and drums played "Amazing Grace."
Some fans grabbed a piece of the field, cutting out chunks of the grass where the Emeralds have played for 40 years.
