EUGENE, Ore. -- Congressman Peter DeFazio presented long-delayed military awards to two Vietnam veterans Monday in Eugene.

"In this case it's taken us a few years to finally give the honor and the recognition that these two gentlemen have earned," DeFazio said.

Eddie Langley of Lakeside, Ore. received the Purple Heart for wounds he received in the Vietnam War.

"It feels like the icing on the cake, finally got the icing on the cake," Langley said. "It just feels good because my mother's been asking me, she's 83, 'When you going to get that Purple Heart?' Because my dad got one."

Langley said he has been helping veterans all his life and continues to help whenever he can.

Patrick Savolt of Sweet Home was awarded the Air Medal for more than 25 missions over hostile territory in Vietnam and the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service.

"I'm just so happy," Savolt said. "I waited so long, 40 years, and now I have them and it's just wonderful, it feels very wonderful."

Savolt had previously received the Bronze Star with valor for his service in Vietnam.
