EUGENE, Ore. -- Suspended University of Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount offered another apology -- and official talk of another chance from Coach Chip Kelly emerged from the Oregon athletic department.

Blount wrote an opinion piece in Thursday’s Oregon Daily Emerald, the UO campus newspaper.

“That night, I used poor judgment and lost self-control. My actions reflected poorly upon my teammates, our football program, and our University.  And for this, I offer my sincerest apologies and heartfelt regrets,” Blount wrote in the piece.

The same day, the UO released this statement under the banner OREGON MEDIA AVAILABILITY:

"University of Oregon football coach Chip Kelly will be available immediately following Friday's practice to discuss elements of his plan that has been in place with senior running back LeGarrette Blount that could include Blount's potential reinstatement prior to the conclusion of the 2009 season.

"Blount has been suspended since the conclusion of the Ducks' season-opening loss at Boise State Sept. 3.

"The availability will take place at approximately 11 a.m. in the plaza between Autzen Stadium and the Len Casanova Center."

Blount punched Boise State player Byron Hout after the Duck’s loss to the Broncos on Sept. 3.  He also lunged at fans heckling him and had to be restrained by a coach and police officer.

Blount first apologized as reporters crowded him in the locker room right after the punch.

The next day head coach Chip Kelly suspended Blount for the remainder season.

Blount was allowed to stay on the team and remain in school – a point he addressed in the Daily Emerald apology.

“Going forward, what I hope for is the opportunity to show that I am able to earn a second chance as a University student. And if I am so fortunate, I believe that I also will demonstrate that I am a better man and a better human being for having lived through this unfortunate experience,” he wrote.
