Officer hurt in crash released from hospital
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- A police officer injured in a head-on crash with a car driven by a 91-year-old woman Monday has been released from RiverBend Hospital in Springfield, according to the Oakridge police chief.
The woman, Virginia Spalinger of Oakridge, Ore., died in the crash.

Oakridge Police Chief Louis Gomez said Friday that Officer Daniel Miller, 27, was released Thursday evening where he has been treated since Monday, Oct. 12.
Oregon State Police troopers from the Oakridge and Springfield offices are continuing the investigation with the assistance of Oakridge Police Department.
Investigators said there is no estimated timeline for the completion of the investigation.
Early reports indicated Miller had his lights and siren on while purusing a speeder on Highway 58 when his police car collided with Spalinger's vehicle at the only stoplight in town.
