'It's almost as if he's in a death spiral ... waiting to have a shootout'
SALEM, Ore. -- A man suspected of robbing two banks in Salem last week may have headed south and has sparked concerns among police that he may be "in a death spiral" looking to have a shoot out with police.
Last week, the man robbed the Key Bank on Lancaster Boulevard on Wednesday.

The next day, he robbed the Bank of America branch in the Lancaster Mall, not far from the scene of Wednesday's robbery.

In both cases, the man made no effort to conceal his identity.
Police are "really concerned about him, more so than most," said Lt. Steve Birr with the Salem Police Department, "because he's not trying to conceal his identity. It's almost as if he's in a death spiral, like he is waiting to have a shootout or death by cop."
The Salem Police is hoping someone will identify him and call police at (503) 588-6123.
"We really are hoping someone will recognize him before someone gets hurt," Birr said.
The suspect is described as 5-foot-10 tall, 170 to 180 pounds, with brown and graying hair, wearing a white baseball cap, a grey or light blue zip up hooded fleece jacket, wire frame glasses, and a multi colored shirt with small squares for the pattern.
Police believed he went south after the first robbery. The second robbery makes it unclear whether the man is on the move or a resident of the Salem area, Birr said.
