SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- An early Veterans Day celebration marched through Springfield Sunday. The rain held off for most of the annual parade.

The Honor Guard opened the parade, then the Eugene Highlanders led the procession. The Highlanders were followed by the Junior Ladies Auxiliary and veterans on motorcycles.

This parade is an important tradition for many people in the area.

"I have grandchildren that are in the military that have been overseas," said Dorothy Strome, "so this is to support them."

Families lined the streets, some clutching their loved ones. The Cascade Choir also performed.

Veterans Day is Wednesday.
