No bail in slaying of pregnant woman

Korena Roberts (right) told a neighbor she was pregnant, but police now say the story was likely false, a cover story, and that the 27-year-old cut open her pregnant friend Heather Snively's abdomen to take her baby and pass it off as her own.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) — A woman accused of killing a pregnant woman and cutting her baby out of her womb will remain in jail without bail pending trial.

A judge in Hillsboro ruled Tuesday that 28-year-old Korena Roberts should remain in custody on aggravated murder charges in the June 5 death of 21-year-old Heather Snively.

One of the lead detectives in the case testified at a Washington County Circuit Court release hearing that Roberts showed no signs of mental illness during the investigation.

Roberts did not attend the hearing. Her attorney declined comment about whether mental illness will be involved in her defense.
