Mr. Sober drives you and your ride home after you’ve been drinking
A new program called Mr. Sober has a driver pick you up and drive you home in your own car so you don't have to drive after drinking. Barry Sommer and Zener Stanfill said they came up with Mr. Sober idea after seeing a similar program on TV in England.
When they got back to the U.S. they contacted local officials to see if the program could be started in Lane County.
“I called both the City of Springfield and Eugene and spoke to them. Spoke to Sringfield Police and the Lane County Sheriff’s Office and the response I got was: 'this is a great idea, there's no licenses or permits needed. Go ahead and do it- you have our blessing,'” said Sommer.
The Mr. Sober program costs $20 per vehicle. Sommer said $5 of that fee is donated to a local charity of your choice. The service is available every Friday & Saturday from 10PM-3AM. Call 541-517-7973 for more information.
