"Uncovering America": a man and his horse

By Andy Peterson

It's an unusual cross-country trip, starring a Lebanon man and his four-legged friend.

Bill Inman starts Saturday on a tour of America -- on horseback. Inman and his horse, Blackie, will make a 32-week trek from Lebanon to Hendersonville, North Carolina, with a documentary film crew trailing close behind.

He says he wants to introduce people to the parts of the country you don't normally see, "because there's a lot of interesting stories out there."

"There's a lot of people in rural America," he says, "(that are) actually the backbone of America, and has a story to tell. I can find them when I'm only going three or four miles an hour."

But what does the horse think? Inman says he will break the trip down to weekly segments of 80 to 100 miles to keep from wearing Blackie out.
