7th grader helps friend choking on cheeseburger
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - When Evyn Malone and Megan Spangler look back on the 7th grade, they'll remember the time Evyn choked on a cheeseburger.
"I exhaled but I couldn't inhale, and so my face just got really red because I couldn't breathe at all," Evyn said.
That's when Evyn locked eyes with Megan from across the cafeteria.
"And I thought a boy did something like asked her out or something, because she kind of looked like she was laughing," Megan said, "but then she came over here."
Evyn clasped her hands to her throat, gasping for air. She rain to Megan, a friend she knew she could count on.
"She's the savior," Evyn said. "I'm the savee."
Megan took action. "I pushed three times, and then that's when she coughed it up."
The cheeseburger chunk shot onto the floor.
In that split second when Megan helped her friend, she thought back to training she learned from McKenzie Fire and Rescue back in 2009.
Firefighter Matt Brooks said Megan's actions makes firefighters and EMTs proud.
"She could have learned it from a book, she could have learned it from YouTube, but she remembered what we taught her and she acted with an amazing level of maturity for a seventh grader," Brooks told KVAL News.
The girls said the other kids in the cafeateria didn't notice what Megan did for Evyn.
"At the end of the day, she legitimately saved my life," Evyn said, "and without her, I don't know what would have happened."
Sounds like this chick ought to chew her food before ingesting.
"The cheeseburger chunk shot" across the room. I bet she is going to be remembered as the chick that hacked up the hamburger.
@Michael Michaels ---at least they both payed attention in their first aid class. I know I never did. JHS, HS. Military cerified---still can't remember much...gotta' get recertified at LCC again for only $38! it is a bargain. Heimlich manueveur for choking is just the beginning they say now.Â
Nice to mix up the doom and gloom with a little good news. Nice job ladies!
Please ban cheeseburgers, they cause all sorts of health problems. Â
@Jason Marks ---whenever you see that McDonalds sign, turn it 45 degrees, squint really bad, and you will see the number 13. What's more is that M is the 13th letter of the Alphabet. The logo's color is yellow and red---same color as all the urine and blood when they chop off the cows head.
But, for a dollar,  I really like those MacDoubles. Now, on the back of the dollar, you will see the eye of Providence at the 13th level of the pyramid. That is a cows eye. IKES VP put that there on instruction of the ETs (Orion Blues) that so loved beef (especially cow lips) when they arrived on earth back in the 50s in Brazil. If you are really bored to death, you can count the 13 arrows, olive leaves, stripes, and stars surrounding the eagle, and pearls bordering the ornate design left and right.
That's because BF wanted a bald eager burger more than a turkey burger---go figure.
