Three seriously injured in crash on icy Oregon road
PRINEVILLE, Ore. -- Three people were seriously injured when a driver lost control on a patch of ice and drove off the highway, causing the pickup to overturn several times before coming to rest 200 feet from the highway.
The crash happened around 4:43 a.m. on Highway 27 south of Prineville, Ore.
According to Oregon State Police, a 2005 Toyota Tacoma four-door pickup with three Prineville residents was northbound on Highway 27 near milepost 3 when its driver lost control on ice and traveled off the highway. The pickup overturned numerous times before coming to rest on its side about 200 feet from the highway.
One of the occupants, Taylor M. Knox, 19, was found by a passing motorist along the highway trying to flag down traffic to get emergency medical response.
Knox was transported by ambulance to Prineville Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
A second occupant was ejected from the truck during the crash. He was found unconscious in the field bordering the highway. Luke B. Estes, 19, was transported by air ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend with critical injuries. He was not using safety restraints at the time of the crash, according to police.
The third occupant, Fabian Patino, 35, was seriously injured. He was then taken by air ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. He was using safety restraints, according to state police.
