Dump truck accident takes local man's life
An industrial accident Tuesday afternoon has left one man dead, and a dump truck overturned in the Willamette River.
We took a boat out onto the river to catch these scenes of workers trying to pull the dump truck from the water.
The victim, an employee of Delta Sand and Gravel, was driving the truck on this single-lane bridge across the Willamette. Suddenly, the truck went off the roadway and fell 20 to 25 feet to the river, into about ten feet of water.
The Eugene Fire Department's Water Rescue team responded to the scene.
"Two civilian personnel and, from what I understand, a Lane County Sheriff's Deputy had extricated the man up to the truck," explains Eugene Fire Capt. Jim Walter, "and were waiting there for us to get there."
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
