Springfield - We may not have won the Simpsons contest, but creator Matt Groening says we are the real Springfield!

Groening sent plaques to every city in the movie premiere contest, but Springfield officials say, ours, is the only one signed 'to the real Springfield.'

And according to published reports Friday Groening says he always believed Springfield, or possibly Beaverton was the hometown. Mayor Sid Lieken say's it may be a bit late but it's the icing on the cake.

"Suggesting that Springfield, Oregon is the Springfield in the Simpsons, I'm going to look at it as being an honor and something we can just continue to have fun with," says Mayor Sid Lieken.

This fall the Simpsons will become the longest running prime time comedy series and animated show on TV.
