Authorities find 3 missing near Coos-Douglas County line

COOS COUNTY, Ore. -- Authorities from two counties located three men Sunday morning, after they became stranded in the snow on Bone Mountain.

Deputies from the Coos County Sheriff's office were sent to look for the men, who had become stranded after the van they were in became stuck in the snow.

When the driver, Anthony Kitchens, 22, of Glendale, called 911 around 1:30 a.m., dispatchers were able to track down the cell phone to an area on Bone Mountain off of Hwy 42 near the Coos/Douglas County line.

Kitchens had been reported missing prior to his 911 call.

Deputies with four wheel drive vehicles, along with Douglas County Search and Rescue personnel searched for about four hours before finding Kitchens and the two others with him, identified as Garrett Platt, 21, of Glendale, and Luke Brendon, 23, of Azalea.

Officials say the three men had left the vehicle and walked in two separate directions.

Authorities say the men were in a vehicle that was "inadequate for the conditions present."

Deputies cited Kitchens for careless driving and driving while suspended.

The Coos County Sheriff's office reminds motorists that they need to be prepared for adverse weather conditions and bring equipment and emergency supplies when driving in the snow.
