Bicyclist crashes into curb avoiding car
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - A cyclist attempting to avoid a car hit the curb instead, crashing hard on his face.
Passersby attended to the injured man until medics arrived.
The bicyclist, who appeared to be carrying bags for touring, was taken to the hospital.
The crash happened just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on 14th Street in Springfield.
There is no word yet on the extent of his injuries. He was bleeding from his head but appeared to have been wearing a helmet.
I saw something like this happen on West 11th and Oak Patch in Eugene yesterday.. a man in an SUV was trying to speed through the yellow light when an older man on his bike was crossing [at the crosswalk, he had the right away] the an in the SUV came so close to hitting him everyone just stopped and had to breathe for a second. The man stopped at Dari Mart and was saying his praises. People have GOT to be more careful. And no this may not be "news, news" But it's still something to keep in mind. This is supposed to be a "BIKE FRIENDLY" town.. and people don't keep there eyes open. Â
@Salena Rogers just because it's a bike friendly town doesn't give the people the right to ignore the laws of the road. cyclists are suppose to to follow the same laws as motorists they have no special right. and i've seen cyclists do things that would get someone in a car pulled over and ticketed. what's missing in this story is who wasn't paying attention was it the motorist or the cyclist. don't always assume that cyclists pay attention cause they don't. I've almost hit a few because they decided to run a red light when I had the right away.
@RC95 I agree completely! I'm just simply saying that EVERYONE needs to be more aware. Nothing irritates me more then bicyclists that think they're driving a car. One minute they're acting like they're driving a car, the next they're up on the sidewalk then crossing when it's not they're turn, so on and so forth.. trust me. I do NOT have a biased opinion here, as I don't even own a bike. I can't count the times I have almost hit someone on a bike due to their lack of attention. But based off what I saw personally yesterday.. it was clearly the man in the SUV's fault and he should have been more aware. I see cyclists not paying attention more often than not. :/
Wow KVAL, slow news day? A bicyclist crashed. BAD CAR......BAD!!! I'm kind of a sucker for details.....crazy like that.
How is this news? Always have to make it sound like the driver of the cars fault. Not enough information.
some much missing
