Camper dies while walking on Florence-area beach

FLORENCE, Ore. -- A medical emergency is the likely cause of death for a man found dead on a beach north of Florence Thursday afternoon, state police officials said.

Oregon State Police responded to the beach near Washburn State Park at around 3 p.m. Thursday after a group of people found the body of a 57-year-old man.

Officials said that the man was camping at the state park by himself. 

A preliminary investigation revealed that the man was not in the water leading up to his death, which OSP officials said was likely caused by a medical problem. 

The Lane County Medical Examiner is continuing the investigation into what killed the man.
