Car slams into bus full of kids

MADRAS, Ore. - A driver pulled around two stopped cars and slammed into a school bus loaded with elementary school students Wednesday afternoon.

None of the 43 students and adults on the bus was injured.

The woman who crashed into the bus was take to Mountain View Hospital in Madras for treatment.

According to state police, Janet B. Farrell, 62, was northbound on Highway 361 in a 2010 Prius when she swerved onto the highway shoulder to driver around two cars stopped behind the bus.

The Prius crashed into the rear of the bus.

A decision on whether or not to charge the driver with a crime is pending completion of the investigation and interviews, police said.

Jefferson County School District sent another bus to the scene to transport students to their destinations.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Jefferson County Fire District #1, Jefferson County School District, and ODOT. The highway was blocked for over an hour.
