COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. -- A man who lost all of his possessions in a house fire last year is now trying to grow a business out of the ashes.
Bjorn Day said that he woke up to a fire inside of his Cottage Grove home in May of 2012. Day said that after he doused the fire and returned to bed, the fire somehow reignited.
By the next morning everything he owned was gone.
"After the fire, I worked on it for 2 (to) 3 months non-stop just to get my mind away from everything,” said Day. “I had to put everything I lost aside … my animals … my possessions and just move forward, kinda just start something."
Since then, Day started working with his father to open a garden store in Cottage Grove, the same business that his grandparents started in the 1960’s.
The men took out loans from family and an investor to open the store in same building that his grandparent’s garden supply shop used to occupy.
At the start of the New Year, Bjorn and his father opened the doors to Green Day Garden Supply.
They chose the name to honor Bjorn’s grandparents, whose surnames were ‘Green’ and ‘Day’.
Bjorn said that the name is fitting, as he said family was an essential part in reaching his goal.
To commemorate the new business, Day said that the store has a 20 percent-off sale which will run from Friday, Jan. 11 to Friday, Jan. 18.
