ALBANY, Ore. - An 8-year-old boy died when his family's SUV crashed on Interstate 5 north of Albany on Sunday night, police said.

Yonic Guzman-Arango was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His brother, 13-year-old Mateo Guzman, was seriously injured in the crash. He was taken by ambulance first to Albany General Hospital and then transferred to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.

The crash happened just before 7 p.m. Sunday. Willevaldo Guzman-Cruz, 53, of Keizer was drivingt northbound on I-5 in a 2000 Dodge Durango with his family when the SUV traveled into the center median and overturned, rolling several times before coming to rest in the oncoming travel lanes.

Oregon State Police said investigators are looking into whether a tire malfunction contributed to the crash.

Guzman-Cruz was traveling with his wife, Evangelica, 37, and their four boys. The two older boys and their parents were injured but not badly enough to be taken from the scene by ambulance, police said.

All of the survivors were wearing their seatbelts, police said. Whether the boy killed in the crash was wearing a seatbelt remains under investigation.

ALBANY, Ore. -- A deadly rollover crash had southbound Interstate 5 north of Albany closed for about three hours Sunday night, the Oregon Department of Transportation said.

State police said that a 2000 Dodge Durango carrying six people crashed and rolled several times, coming to rest on it's side near milepost 234 at around 7 p.m. Sunday.

An 8-year-old boy was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

Troopers say the boy's 13-year-old brother was seriously injured and transported by ambulance first to Albany General Hospital and then transferred to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis. Earlier reports from police had identified the boy as 3 years old.

Authorities have not released the names of the people involved in the fatal crash at this point, but say the 53-year old male driver, a 37-year old female passenger and two other juvenile-age passengers were injured but not taken to the hospital.

Officials say a tire malfunction may have led to the crash, but the investigation is continuing.

Both north and southbound lanes were blocked for around an hour, with vehicles skirting the crash on the shoulder of the roadway.
