Dogs from LA seek new homes in Oregon
EUGENE, Ore. - A cargo truck full of dogs from Riverside, California, made the 17-hour drive to Oregon to be rescued by various local dog shelters in the Willamette Valley.
Luv-a-Bull Pit Bull Rescue and Save-The-Pets, two animal rescue organizations from Eugene, received a total of 20 dogs from Shelter Transport Animal Rescue Team, the dog rescue transport based out of Los Angeles, California.
The dogs, including a pregnant pit bull and two litters of puppies, will be adopted out in the area.
Riding along with START is a film crew sponsored by Adoptapet.com. The crew is shooting a documentary on interstate dog rescue transports featuring Luv-a-Bull Pit Bull rescue.
The START dog rescue transport arrived at a Shell gas station in Eugene at 7 a.m. Thursday morning, dropped off 20 dogs to two different local rescues, and headed off to Albany to drop off more dogs at shelters there.
I pulled a ChiCorgi out of Lancaster shelter in S CA a few weeks ago and this is one of the nicest and sweetest dogs Ive ever had! They have a horrible problem in San Bernardino and also Lancaster and Devore Shelters. They have LOTS of dogs that were simply dumped by their owner with no hope of ever finding a new home, Our Reilly is a little wonder in fur and we are very glad that we reached out to help in an area that has a much worse overpopulation problem than ours. He is our new baby!
We rescued many dogs on this transport. Pugs, a baby Boxer, a mama Chihuahua and her 2 week old puppies, an English Bulldog, Shih Tzu's, and poodle mixes. And yes a beautiful mama Pitbull who's as gentle as a lamb. They would all be dead today if we didn't help them. We were their only hope. Not one of these precious beings deserved to die. Most rescues do not take "vicious dogs" of any kind unless they are rehabilitation centers.A perfect temperament test is required of all our adult Pitbulls prior to leaving the shelter in LA. We have experienced, educated, knowledgeable partners who spend a lot of time with the dogs evaluating their behaviors.Â
We typically do not know what breed the father is when our dogs come pregnant. We can DNA test puppies once they're born. We support the mama and pups til they are ready for homes of their own. We have a thorough application process and get to know our adopters prior to inviting them out to meet our dogs.Pitbull adoptions require home checks. We provide training and support our families for the rest of their dogs life. If for any reason the family has to return their dog, even ten years down the line, we will always take them back. We are committed to the dogs we rescue til the very end. It is mandatory the pups are spayed/neutered, micro chipped, and well provided for.Â
We value the lives of all breeds of dogs. Our adopters become part of our family and we work as a team to find their perfect match. Each and every one of our dogs deserve a chance at a safe and loving life, especially our Pitbulls!
@A Dogs Best Friend! ---thanks for clarifying your adoption procedures. Your process is very thorough, and I hope anyone interested in a pit bull goes through your organization, before letting Cleatis the slacked-jawed yokel get a hold of one. As you state,  your focus is on rescuing dogs in general, and for that too the public is grateful.
Brings too mind an old comedy routine in one of those Pink Panther movies:
A stranger walks up to a blind man holdong a pit bull on his lease, and asks the blind man if his dog bites. Blind man says, "No, 'my' dog doesn't bite".
Stranger reaches down to pet the pit bull and gets his right hand bitten off to the bone and is bleeding profusely.
Stranger says, "DAM Mister! I thought you said 'your' dog doesn't bite".
Blind man says, "Sorry stranger, but this isn't 'my' dog!"Â
I commend Luv-A-Bull for taking in these dogs and helping find them a better life. Not all pit bull owners are irresponsible and I think the reason there is so much negativity about the breed is due to the media. I hope that I will soon be able to take one of these wonderful dogs into my home.
@Bandita Tonya ---It is true that not all pit owners are irresponsible, but too many of them are. And, it is commendable that Luv-A-Bull is able too weed out the bad applicants and do follow ups. That is a valuable and life-saving public good. Â
Biggest problem with pit bulls is that the owners are high risk people themselves. Such people are more prone to end up in jail, a hospital, and not have the resources to care for it and guard it from the neighbor's kids and pets.
Quite a few countries around the world, simply do not allow this breed inside their borders, because the breed is indisputably involved in most dog attacks on humans and other peoples' pets.Â
Want to bring down your neighborhood real estate value, AND increase your homeowner's insurance? Just invite an owner of a pit bull into the 'hood.
Crime statistics, emergency room medics, and economics seem to be a lot more reliable than anything a pit bull owner will tell you.
@peaceHere's a list of people who own pitbulls who would not be considered "high risk people" to the majority of people. I'm sure their neighbors property value is secure!

Here's some fun facts I'd like to share.Â
In the early twentieth century, Pit Bulls were respected for their loyalty, determination, and bravery. The first decorated canine war hero was a Pit Bull named Sergeant Stubby. He was, until his death, a guest of every White House administration.
The classic childrenâs television show, The Little Rascals, featured an American Pit Bull Terrier as âPetey the Pit Bullâ.Â
Statistics: The national passing average for the TT for all breeds is 81.9%. Â However, historically the pit bull has done better then average. Â Detailed statistics are available on the ATTS site. Â (www.atts.org)
American Pit Bull Terriers are passing by 85.3%.  The American Staffordshire Terrier is close behind, with 83.9%.  Contrast these with the scores of the  Golden Retriever (84.6%) and the German Shepard Dog (83.7%)
I wanted to share some facts about the breed. However, this news article was not focusing on Pitbulls, it was sharing the story of many homeless animals of all breeds who had no hope. Thanks to rescue's the dogs now have a second chance at life.Â
@A Dogs Best Friend! --- famous people who can afford a professional trainer to raise and tend to such an infamous breed of dog might be sending the wrong message to us common suburb types.
Just because Mr. Burns can afford to have a pack of trained pure bred doberman's on his estate, doesn't mean I would encourage Homer to have a pit bull in my neighborhood of Springfield.
Stop hating on the pit bulls! They are fun dogs! Oh, and you are being ignorant how a dog is raised determins how mean they are, not their breed.
@Feesh ---not if that dog's gene pool is as small as its owner's.
I'm sorry, but the world does not need more pit bulls. And we certainly do not need more of them here in Lane County, which seems to already have a lot of pit bulls.

@Just Duckee ---there are most certainly, other breeds of dog that can be trusted more not to go psycho on human's and other people's pets.
This is not true. We save these dogs from getting killed. The process is very critical, we do home inspections, adoption apps, and adoption contracts.Â
@Dorie McLuskie ---with a pregnant pit bull, how will you ever know what sired her, and where the litter will end up?
I am all for saving a dog's life, and agree that your process is a lot more thorough than the way other's acquire a pit bull.
Just am curious if any follow up will be made for where the puppies go.
I salute your best efforts and intentions, and wish I had the time to volunteer myself. I love all dogs very much. Bravo! Kudos to you!
Oh yeah, great idea, we don't have enough vicious pitbulls in Eugene, so let's import some in from Gangland, California!Â
Hi! Its bre, I met you there. It is Save The Pets!
