Drunk driver hits parked patrol car, injures trooper
BROOKINGS, Ore. -- A state trooper was injured on Highway 101 early Thursday morning when a drunk driver drifted off the road and hit his parked cruiser, officials said.
Sean Russell, 19 of Brookings, was driving his Dodge pickup north on Hwy 101. He had a blood-alcohol concentration of .18 percent.
At around 1:30 a.m. Russell drifted onto the road's shoulder going about 65 miles-per-hour. He hit the back of Senior State Trooper Jeff Johnson's patrol car, which was parked near milepost 358.
The dodge then hit a guard rail and continued down the road about 100 yards.
Johnson was taken to Sutter Coast Hospital with minor injuries. He was treated and released, however he did complain of back pain.
Russell wasn't injured injured in the crash. He was arrested for driving under the influence and lodged at the Curry County jail. Russell was arraigned later in the day.
unfortunately Sean (The drunk driver) took his own life, I'm sure he was overwhelmed with quilt, After court Sean walked up to the officer Reyes to shake his hand and truly apologize ,The office looked him up and down and said your not sorry, I don't believe you are sorry for one minute'.Â
Everyone makes mistakes, never judge a book by its cover,Â
Everyone is fighting there own battle.
dont get me wrong I hope the officer is gona be ok,but it sure seems like these guys get injured where we people just walk it off, must be a police union thing,no matter what you must say you were injured.
oh and i hope this idiot kid learns his lesson and doesnt have to spend to many years in prison
Serendipity can be a mofo, depending on your point of view.
@godless anarchist ---"serendipity", now that's a big word. I had to look that up. Reminded me of that
TV show "Dukes of Hazard". Surprizingly, like the show, nobody gets injured too severely.
One partial yet very effective remedy to this hazard is the use of fake signs or life-like props of police cars displayed along such traffic shoulders. These are commonly referred to as "scarecrows" in Japan to make drivers more cautious, alert, and less speedy. Just thinking about a cop does this for most drivers. It is particulary effective for disoriented drivers unfamiliar with the road they are on. Seems to save lives w/o gauging the taxpayer with surveillance, tickets and court costs. A real-life prop of a severly mangled vehicle (call it the tinman) is often put on display near the corner of a dangerous intersection...now what to do with the cowardly lion? Maybe dress up the drunk driver and make it hold a sign saying I was a misereable drunken coward!Â
Well if the police state wasn't obsessed with hiding out on dark shoulders preying on drivers to fill thier money sacks with fines this wouldnt have happened.
This doesen't suprise me ,I see state and county police cars parked on the shoulder in the dark and foggy nights up on Hwy. 58 all the time. Wheather drunk or not I have often wondered how long it would be before one would get hit buy a car or a semi. I'am glad the officer only got shook up this time though. Is it really worth sittin on the shoulder next to the fog line that close, I know I don't like it when I've been broke down? Buy the way the drunk gets what he deserves.
Well, along with all this young mans pending problems, others are in serious trouble for providing him with the alcohol!
