Eugene Police in standoff over a weapons warrant

EUGENE, Ore. -- Two men were arrested Friday after a standoff with Eugene Police in a hotel on 7th and Tyler. Both men had warrants for their arrest.

Garney Hamilton had a federal warrant for his arrest for 'felon in possession of a firearm'. Benjamin Campbell was wanted on a Springfield warrant for possession of methanphetamine and a 'failure to appear' violation.

Police made a call on the warrant Hamilton holed up in his room at America's Best Value Inn on W 7th ave. The Eugene Police Department used an armored vehicle and a loudspeaker in an attempt to get the man out of the apartment building. 

Hamilton and Campbell surrendered around noon.

The police suspected Hamilton had access to weapons and closed down the intersection of for safety. Traffic was redirected to 8th avenue as police handled the situation.

Both 7th and Tyler streets are  open to traffic.
