Fire burns through mobile homes, shop near Halsey

HALSEY, Ore. -- Nearly 30 firefighters worked into the night on Saturday to extinguish a fire that burned through two mobile homes, a shop and a woodshed at a rural residence area north of Halsey, fire officials said.

The Brownsville Fire Department responded to the fire call at 33953 Lake Creek Drive at around 7:30 p.m. Saturday. They arrived to find two trailer homes, a shop area and a lumber shed engulfed in flames.

After ensuring that the buildings were evacuated, they began fighting the fires, fire crews said.

Officials then called for assistance from departments in the surrounding Halsey/Shedd, Harrisburg, Lebanon and Tangent Fire Departments for assistance.

The nearly 30 responding firefighters had the fire extinguished by 10:45 p.m. before they inspected the smoldering structures for areas that could reignite.

Officials said that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
