Firearms found in bushes: 'I could just see a total incident happening'

VENETA, Ore. - Two rifles and a shotgun held together with tape and hair ties found in the bushes Wednesday near a shopping center likely wouldn't be able to fire, but the discovery worried residents.
"It's always a concern when you hear information about weapons that are at large," said Roseanne Bell, who works nearby.
Bell said shops in the center were broken into recently.
"So if they fall in hands that can do something with them, that's kind of scary," Bell said. "A lot of people don't know how to manage weapons but a lot of people in this community do."
There is an elementary school two blocks up the street.
"Kids all the time are walking up and down the street," said Christina Schenk, "and I'm sure they would probably pick something like that up and be like, 'Cool, look at this,' and I could just see a total incident happening."
The weapons appeared to sheriff's deputies to have been in the grass for at least a year. The sheriff's office plans to destroy the firearms.
uhmm no_law that does that have to do with guns found? some people use any excuse to whine I guess!  I didn't see one mention about them trying to find the last registered owner of those guns to make sure they weren't stolen. come on cops do you job return those guns to the rightfull owner if one can be found. they may be rusty and in non firing condition but they maybe be something that belonged to a long deceased relative and have great sentiment to the people that lost them. it makes me wonder if they weren't real nice guns and the cops that found them just want to take them home or not.Â
I know of an instance where someone got busted trespassing and was in the car with someone who had been convicted of a felony so the persons shotgun that was also in the car got confiscated by the coburg police I was the last registered owner of that gun I received no call from the police to make sure the gun had been purchased from me it just went into their inventory. the person I sold the gun to was just guilty of hunting turkeys with an ex con and letting him take them into private property but they still took his gun and poof it magically disappeared

@No_Law_AroundHere I'm not sure what is going on around here. To many ways these theives can get away with taking peoples property. It makes me sick, you call on those that are in authority to protect and serve and they can't help. What is a law abiding citizen to do. We need to make crimes illeagl and criminals need to be aware they can't take advantage of people. It's a joke and making people mad that crimes go unpunished or worse the theives get to keep your property.
THESE CRIMANALS NEED TO BE Â SHAMED...WE GOT MINUTEMEN AT OUR BORDERS..hey we need that type of patriotism in our communitys. WE NEED TO STAND TOGETHER and stop this.
get back to.. CRIME DOESN"T PAY...DO THE CRIME DO THE TIME..it has to stop.
We need a Sheriff to get a posse together...drive these varmints out of town..or at least give them a chance to change their ways. If you are one these folks committing these type of crimes this town is to small and KARMA will come and get you.
I think the cops are making a mountain outta a mole hill guns are dropped all the time. I found a rifle in my trash dumpster a month ago called E.P.D.to come get it, took'em 5 hours to come and get it. Found out it belonged to a
guy that was mental and tried to burn his Apt. down . So yeah guns are dropped all the time and nobody calls the media about it.
Few rifles and shotguns are capable of enduring a year of exposure to the elements and dirt and still remaining functional.Â
The most immediate threat from any one of these weapons would be equal to that of a baseball bat. You could pick them up and swing them, but they won't fire.
So in order to make them effective they would need to be
broke down and cleaned
lubed and put back together...correctly
ammunition would need to be purchased
Then they could "possibly" be a threat
OR.....
They could be used to stop;
a home invasion
an armed robbery
an abusive spouse
a rabid animal
a door to door salesman
OR....
 mounted to a wall and used as;
a handy towel rack
a sweet shower grab handle
multi-roll toilet paper rack...nice
So depending on your perspective, a person could view them as a great find rather than :scary/spooky
@flor3nc3 of course that could be said of many "finds." a bundle of meth could be a gift from god for one person and a community nightmare to others.
I was thinking that the discussion was firearms....did I miss something???
but but but...
all guns are scarey.
they all need to be banned.
whoops, i am speaking for baldr.
So pervasive our guns in our community, that they wind up dumped in ditches. Â Were they stolen? Â Taken by kids from their home? Â Who knows? Â One thing's for certain: someone really irresponsible left them there, without a thought about the danger they posed.
@Baldr Odinson TROLL TROLL TROLL. You have nothing useful to contribute.
A nonstory. And I am amazed that they bothered to quote her saying, "A lot of people don't know how to manage weapons but a lot of people in this community do."
Â
What the hell does that mean? Is her opinion that they do or don't??
Â
And I see we have the Lane County Barney Fife Sheriff's Office on the job! They don't have time to run the numbers to see if they're stolen evidently, might interfere with a Dari Mart run for more biscuits and gravy.
Â
And mark my words, those weapons won't be destroyed right away; a deputy is going to take them home and clean them up and see if he can salvage them for use. If he hasn't already.
Â
Veneta deputies are the scummiest on the force.
dang, chica,
take a deep breath, put your tinfoil hat away and think about what you are saying next time.
@edwierd drescher WHat does a tinfoil hat have to do with anything? Nothing I wrote is out of the realm of possibility at all. And personally knowing a couple of the deputies rather well in Veneta puts me in a position to judge them.
Â
So go soak your head for awhile and shut your pie hole.
