Flood changes plans: 'I was going to go try on my wedding dress'
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Mike Williford packed up the car for the family on Thursday.
"My kids and wife got to go," he said.
Williford decided to stay behind to keep an eye on the rising water.
"It's pretty scary," he said.
Dozens of people escaped to dry land Thursday as Corvallis area residents fled flood-stricken areas.
In the Conifer neighborhood, high water flooded the street and damaged dozens of cars. Many people voluntarily evacuated in big trucks, hip waders - even row boats.
Elissa Campbell said they were also staying put - and hoping her dad's truck doesn't float away.
"He was, 'ah, no, it's a Ford, it can handle it,'" Campbell said.
But Amanda Loop Kremers isn't taking any chances. "Just trying to load up and get out," she said.
Kremers had far different plans for the day until the sheriff came knocking and suggested she leave.
"We made an evacuation plan, gathered up all our stuff," she said. "My mom was on her way anyway. I was going to go try on my wedding dress."
Instead of wedding planning, she headed for higher ground.
