EUGENE, Ore. - Did you know that Lane County has a Mounted Posse?

Don't worry, not a lot of other people did either.  So the Lane County Sheriff's Mounted Posse held an open house showcasing their skill and raising awareness about the all-volunteer group.

"Sometimes our horses can pick up on things that maybe us as individuals and human beings can't," said First Lieutenant David Flores. "There are a lot of things that a horse can be attuned to, and I think we have that as added tool when we are out looking for someone."

Flores said the group acts primarily as support for search and rescue, but they also participate in many community events like ceremonies, parades and fundraisers.

You may even recognize them as the guys that helped you park at the Lane County Fair.

Because the group is completely composed of volunteers, Flores said the posse is always in need of more people to mount up.

You will need to have your own horse and supplies to join, but everyone is encouraged to help if they can.
