DALLAS, Ore. -- One man is dead and another is injured after a pickup truck crashed just outside of Dallas, Ore. early Saturday morning, the Oregon State Police said.
Sergeant Mark Davie said that at about 1 a.m. Saturday a Chevrolet pickup carrying two men was headed eastbound on Highway 233. The driver, identified as Byron E. Moore, 24 from Dallas, lost control of the truck after it drifted onto the highway's shoulder near the intersection at SE Fir Villa Road. The pickup rolled into a ditch, went airborne and landed in the front yard of a nearby residence.
The passenger, later identified as 24-year-old Mitchell Johnson of Dallas, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Responding emergency crews pronounced him dead at the scene.
Moore was taken to Salem Hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries, OSP officials said.
Police said that alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, they haven't filed charges in the incident yet.
