Police: Drunk man Tasers arresting officer after celebrating birthday

EUGENE, Ore. -- A drunk man Tasered a police officer with the officer's own stun gun early Saturday morning after fighting with Eugene Police who tried to get him to leave Good Times bar, police officials said.
Officers said Jessie Wright was out celebrating his 30th birthday on Friday night when bar staff at Good Times asked for the police to help escort him off the property.
Eugene Police Sergeant Kyle Williams said the incident started early Saturday morning when an officer was conducting a field sobriety check in the Good Times parking lot.
The officer conducting the field test said Wright and a friend interfered and said that the driver was being harassed.
Wright eventually went back to the bar, and Good Times employees asked police to stay close as they were "going to request Wright and his group leave due to their level of intoxication", Eugene Police said.
A short time later one officer said he called for backup after wright approached his car and started yelling obscenities about the bar staff.
Sgt. Williams said that both his group of friends and officers repeatedly asked Wright to leave.
"(Wright) was out celebrating his birthday with friends at the bar. The group was really cooperative, and they were just trying to get him to leave peacefully," said Sgt. Williams.

At one point Jessie Wright (pictured right) started to walk away, but then police said he turned around and aggressively thrust his finger within inches of an officer's face.
It was at that point officers said they put Wright in an arm bar and told him he was under arrest.
Jessie Wright's friends Brandon and Anna both admitted that he had a few too many drinks. But they said that Wright wasn't being aggressive with the officers.
"How do you define an aggressively thrusting finger? I mean … that doesn't make any sense," Anna said.
He started to struggle and police warned him that they would use a Taser if he continued to fight the arrest, police said.
Officials reported that Wright broke free of their hold and an officer shot him with a Taser gun. Wright was only hit with one electrode probe so the stun gun didn't affect him, police said.
Eugene police said that Wright continued to resist the arrest so another officer tried using a hand-held Taser.
"The suspect was able to grab the hand of the officer and redirect the Taser to the officers leg where it cycled a number of times," said Eugene Police Sergeant David Natt.
Brandon said he did see Wright reach his hand back and grab the Taser, but he did not turn it on the officers.
"He wouldn't try to harm a cop and make things worse," said Brandon. "At that point he went into a seizure."
Brandon said Jessie is prone to seizures and fell into one after being Tasered. He told KVAL News that officers thought he was faking the seizure.
After using the Taser, officers pepper sprayed Wright and he eventually stopped fighting, police said.
"The whole thing was over relatively quickly," said Sgt. Williams. "This type of thing doesn't happen very often, thankfully."
Medics treated Wright and the officers at the scene before Wright was booked at the Lane County Jail early Saturday morning on multiple charges including assault on an officer, unlawful use of a stun gun and resisting arrest.
This smells real fishy..... F'n pigs.... how can a man "TASER" a cop, when the man is face down on the ground, 3 cops are on his back, trying to handcuff him??? Who is this guy, Harry Houdini? I dont know about you, but when i put my arm behind my back when i am belly first on the ground, i can barely reach 6 inches away from my body? Which tells me that the pig had the taser WAY TO CLOSE to the man. Why is a taser gun being held point blank? I thought those tasers could shoot 15 feet!Â
I dont feel bad for the pig that got shot.... to bad it wasnt a real gun..... and the F'n pigs wonder why other pigs try to take eachother out..... where is Chris Dorner when you need him?  This is what the second ammendment is all about... the abuse of power by our government...... My FN HERSTAL handgun with over 2000 armor pearcing rounds isnt for the "common criminal" that my break into my house, but for the OUT OF CONTROL pigs that think they are untouchable wearing the level 3 kevlar vests!!!! Now we are even Biiiitches! COME AND TASER ME AND FIND OUT WHAT THE HELL WILL HAPPEN TO YOU!
some officers need further training on how to handle drunks properly...rookies..
I for one will NEVER be patronizing "Good Times"- from over serving folks (then asking the cops to stay) to the cops conducting field sobriety tests in the parking lot- no way am I EVER going there. Plus --folks do NOT wag your finger in a Eugene cop's face- it'll get you put in an arm bar hold... You know how scary a finger can be! This incident is the perfect example of why I will be voting NO on any levy for the Eugene Police Department. I simply do not trust this police force.
Pickachu!! Â Pickachu!!
Nothing like dealing with a drunk!
Can't we all just get along?
"It was at that point officers said they assaulted Wright and told him he was to be kidnapped at gunpoint"Â Yet another victim of the police state..
Cool Hand Luke 86s the cops before they 86 him for a long time.Â
What a "dumb ass". Sounds as if he had gone when his friends were trying to get him to leave, he'd be a free man today...though with a bad hang-over maybe. His troubles have just begun now.Â
Some of the crimes he is charged with are measure 11 felonies. He is looking at more than 7 years in prison with no parole options. Not a great way to start your life after 30 and not funny at all. OSP is hell for young men.
@invisibleman Then, I guess he should have thought twice before committing those pesky felonies.
@ImpartialAntagonist@invisiblemanI sense sarcasm in your reply. It is one thing to take life as a joke when you you are not in prison. It is another to find you are in a cage with men who are willing to pretend you are a woman. Not sure why anyone would take on the police. Yes, he was too drunk to consider the consequences. Being drunk is not usually enough to get you acquitted from assaulting and shooting an officer with a taser.
I think too many bars over serve on a regular basis. I have a friend who has been over served numerous times at various bars in both Eugene and Springfield, in in particular is GOOD FELLAS in Springfield. A month ago I got a 1:30a.m phone call from McKenzie Willamette hosp. that my friend was brought in by the EMTs. My friend was found passed out in the bathroom and taken to the hosp. It was clear that the bar way, way over served them. I think that the bar should be liable for the ER charge, and the $1500 ambulance ride.
@Sparky62Â Or maybe your friend can take responsibility for his own actions and go to rehab for an alcohol addiction. Society needs to start expecting personal responsibility instead of forcing everybody to babysit everybody else.
@Tedomatic @Sparky62 Very well said.
@souptonuts @Tedomatic @Sparky62 I did find that telling someone they have a drinking problem has about the same results as trying to babtize a cat. It does not turn out well.
@Tedomatic @Sparky62 You are 100% correct, this a serious drinking problem my friend has. I was being somewhat factious about the bar paying for her ER visit. I've never been around anyone with this degree of a drinking problem I just hope help is had..
You know, I don't think this is funny. I also don't think the police should even be carrying those things. It is no wonder the officers have so much trouble anymore, they are so weighted down with all the extra radios, tasers, mace, etc. that they can't even defend themselves short of pulling a gun or a taser. We did not have all that stuff, and got along pretty well without it. I broke a few flashlights, but heck it was something we always had at night. Didn't have tasers or mace, just handcuffs and a flashlight. Oh, a six gun with 18 rounds total. Rare backup, we were mostly on our own.
Now I'm not saying this is ok. But damn if it ain't funny as hell and it will bring lots of laughs in the police locker room!!!!
@IAMHIGHÂ F the police and their GAY antics in the locker room.....
@IAMHIGHÂ ---I am guilty of laughing about it too. I used to think being 86d from a bar was a reference to Aug 6 --the Hiroshima Bomb Day. But, later learned it was the prison # of the first death row inmate to sit on "OLD SPARKY"---the electric chair. Sure seemed aprapo for this story.
Keystone cops.
Light the Jackbooted thugs up.
First the bar OVER SERVES him (happily takes his $) then calls the police to get him to go home! The police screw up and he gets a hold of their taser hahahahahahahahaha! Well I'm sure today Mr. Wright is regretting his actions...anybody record it on their iphone? Love to watch it!
@LifeisGOOD007 I am the mother of that young man, and the videos we have show our son been beat up without any reason for the EPD to be doing this. Bottom line is he was well over served at Good Times, and the Police, if they would have had any training at all, would have allowed him to be driven home by a sober driver, instead they spent thousands of our tax dollars beathing someone who's never been in trouble with the law, almost to death...really funny to some of you, but to me its un real...LorraineÂ
