Police: Man wielding knife robs Walmart, caught by K9

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Police arrested a man they said threatened employees at a Walmart store with a knife Saturday night, fleeing the store with merchandise, Springfield Police officials said.
Using a K9 unit, officers said they caught up with the man in a nearby neighborhood.
Police received a call at around 11:40 p.m. Saturday with reports of a robbery involving a knife at the Springfield Walmart.
Employees told police that the man, armed with a knife, stole merchandise from the store and left.
Springfield Police set up a perimeter around the store and called out one of their K9 units to help search for the suspect.
The K9, named Troll, quickly followed a track to a nearby neighborhood where officers located Brian Brusewitz, a 26-year-old homeless man. Springfield Police said that they found Brusewitz holding property from Walmart.
Troll and his K9 officer continued to search the area around where Brusewitz was found and located a knife and additional merchandise from the store.
Police said that Brusewitz has a lengthy criminal record in Lane County and was lodged at the Lane County Jail on a first degree robbery charge.
Springfield Police are continuing the investigation into the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the Springfield Police Department at 541-726-3714.
Springfield Police Department: If citizens see that a Police dog is being deployed, they are encouraged to stay inside their house, and report any suspicious subjects, in the event a suspect is jumping fences or hiding.
We will be seeing more and more of this until the County Jail can come to terms with budget cuts. All the cities in Lane county that utilize this jail need to come together, put your heads, smarts and resources together to solve a problem that affects everyone in Lane County.
Frankly I don't understand how a budget for the County Jail can not be foremost as with the Sheriff's Dept.
Public Protection is not a given right to be funded by pennies from heaven - it is a local obligation.
If a levy is needed to secure what is needed, so be it. Times are hard and crimes will rise as long as those that do not have a conscience know they will not have to pay a price and remain in jail, and eventually end up on a road crew that more than likely they will ignore because what is gonna happen, lock 'em up? Not.
He's in the Lame County Jail..they will probably let him out for lack of space...
Good dogs. Glad no one got hurt. Ship him to Eugene where he is welcomed with open arms and a free shack.
Why call him an idiot? He'll be getting 3 hots and a cot, free of charge for quite some time. Got him out of the freezing winter weather, didn't it?
@CaptchaThis When one gets past the guy is desperate, I think of the fact over 90% of the goods at Wal-Mart are made in China which has horrid labor standards and out of control pollution that flows our way.  Lane county has folks that would work given the chance even part time.  Politicians of states need to pressure DC into mandating bringing back jobs to U.S. and quit the race to the bottom.
What an idiot!! Robbing any business in Eugene would have either gone unreported or not responded to. You can't save stupid people from themselves. Now he'll be booked in Springfield and held until he...wait for it....is sentenced to serve TIME!!!!
