EUGENE, Ore. -- With Halloween fast approaching many Eugene residents are getting their front yards decked out for trick-or-treaters.
Dozens of families came out to Mt. Pisgah's Arboretum on Sunday to carve creepy pumpkins and stuff frightening scarecrows.
Arboretum coordinator Peg Douthit-Jackson said that while a daunting task, making a scarecrow isn't as hard as it looks.
"It's not very hard ... you have to stuff 'em, use twine and use safety pins. Then just stuff, stuff, stuff and then go home to decorate 'em!” said Douthit-Jackson.
Next Weekend people can enter their scarecrow creations in a competition at the Arboretums Mushroom Festival .
