Sheriff: Deputy hurt arresting man in stolen mail truck

EUGENE, Ore. - A sheriff's deputy suffered minor injuries November 10 while trying to arrest a man who was behind the wheel of a stolen Postal Service vehicle, the Lane County Sheriff's Office said.
A state trooper arrived 14 minutes later and helped the deputy take Daniel Puckett into custody with a shock from a Taser, the sheriff's office said.
During those 14 minutes, the deputy tried to use a baton and pepper spray to take Puckett into custody, the sheriff's office said. The deputy managed to apply one handcuff, but Puckett grabbed the other end and attached it to the steering wheel of the Postal vehicle, the sheriff's office said.
Puckett kicked and swung at the deputy, at one point threatening he had a bomb, the sheriff's office said.
Puckett was arrested on numerous charges:
- Four counts of Unlawful Entry of a Motor Vehicle
- Two counts of Resisting Arrest
- Two counts of Attempted Assault of a Public Safety Officer
- Menacing
- Coercion
- Five counts of Theft 2
- Two counts of Possession of Burglary Tools
- Attempted Escape 1
- Attempt Elude by Vehicle
The deputy booked Puckett into the Lane County Jail - for a second time that week.
On November 6, Puckett was booked into the Lane County Jail after allegedly starting a fire in a jail cell in Cottage Grove.
The comments favorable to the accused under this report reflect the sorry state our country is in now. Â After years of social justice, don't be judgmental, and diversity preached in our schools result in people who can not tell right from wrong, good from bad, justice from simpering kissy-kiss. Â I hope to heaven that these offender defenders don't get to serve on juries or decide law enforcement budgets for the simple reason they are not in contact with reality. Â Sort of like Obama supporters.
The man they are talking about is a descent man. I worked with Daniel for two year's in Cottage Grove before he turned to a life of drugs. Daniel was a sweet, caring, kind, and loveable man who wouldn't do anything to harm anyone. I understand that he is currently not making the correct decisions but who can judge another until you have either walked a mile in their shoes or known them for a long period of time and read their story. You all should be ashamed of yourselves talking crap on sombody else when god only knows your not perfect yourself so back off. To Danny's cousin: I know your cousin is a good man. Don't let these stupid, judgmental people get to you.
@Summer Silvia Williams Summer, This "sweet , caring, kind, and lovable man"  you remember is obviously not now what he was.  Given his behavior and arrest record, there is good reason to believe he will resist rehabilitation . . .  So give us a break:  it's time for society to express disapprobation for people like this guy - not to rush to his defense.  For one I'm not ashamed to rush to judgment based on the police reports and say I don't want this guy living in my neighborhood.  Behind bars may even be too good for him.
My 2 cents The person whom they are talking about is and should be a felon. From the sources I was told that the man they caught was also stealing mail from Mail Boxes. That should be federal prison time.
Excuse me? No. The person that they are talking about is NOT a felon. He is my Cousin, he is a good person just making bad mistakes with the wrong people.
@Brandy Smith Your cousin is a loser of the HIGHEST accord.
Well sure they will, They always use jail space and the amount of policeman for leverage on trying to get more tax dollars, biggest scam they got going!
Can anybody say revolving door....the system is broken...This worthless meat head is the proof.
Oh great, the Lane county jail, they probably will let him out ...
@Fennforests:Â Again.
