BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - A Republican senator from northern Idaho has compared the country's health care plans to the Holocaust.
Idaho Sen. Sheryl Nuxoll (R-Cottonwood) posted the comments to her Twitter and Facebook accounts this week.
"The insurance companies are creating their own tombs," Nuxoll wrote. "Much like the Jews boarding the trains to concentration camps, private insurers are used by the feds to put the system in place because the federal government has no way to set up the exchange."
The senator, who's been an Idaho legislator since 2010, opposes President Obama's health care plans as well as Idaho's plan to begin an insurance exchange program.
"Several years from now, the federal government will want nothing to do with private insurance companies. The feds will have a national system of health insurance and they will pull the trigger on the insurance companies."
Nuxoll declined to comment with KBOI News, however, she did tell the Spokesman Review that she did not mean to disrespect the Jewish community.
But Holocaust survivor Rose Beal of Boise isn't buying that disclaimer. Her entire extended family was murdered in the Holocaust and she says she was lucky to escape her native Germany alive.
"It's very offensive. It's insensitive, offensive," Beal told KBOI News. "I was angry when I read about it. I thought: what a dumb, stupid remark to make."
"There was no respect," she said.
Interesting perspective. The terrible, horrific thing that happened to the Jewish people. Did the Jewish people allow the Government to sort of do with them as the Government wanted, or did they stand up, fight back, form a resistance, etc. etc. Did the Jewish people have a means to resist? Well they surely do now, and they can thank America for that. My question is this. What is happening in America right this instant?
WOW! What a stupid and insulting comment. Bet she doesn't last long in her political career.
Holy crap she must not be up for reelection ..I like how at the end of her interview she says no disrespect to the Jewish community why not say this at the start..
