EUGENE, Ore. - A man booked into the Lane County Jail on Wednesday for failing to appear on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and violating parole for sex abuse got out of jail free Thursday as part of sheriff's office budget cuts.
A mile away and less than an hour later, he was back in custody after robbing a downtown bank, the Eugene Police Department said.
Christopher Franklin Weaver, 33, got out of the jail on Thursday at 11 a.m.
He was booked Wednesday for failing to show up for court and for allegedly violating his parole.
And along with 30 other people accused of crimes, he walked out of the Lane County Jail without doing time or posting bail as part of the sheriff's reduction of the jail by 35 beds.
Less than an hour later at 11:55 a.m., police repsonded to a report of a robbery at Pacific Continental Bank at 14th and High downtown.
Officers responding to the scene nabbed a suspect - Christopher Franklin Weaver - and took him into custody.
Weaver is back in jail - this time on a federal hold for bank robbery.
I remember when Burglary was a hanging offense, all handled local, never any crowding.
Well instead of addressing this major issue with our jail system the city council attacked plastic bags...wow feel so much better knowing they are addressing the real issues..ppphhtttt
I am suprised he got arrested at all with the low number of cops...he has to be think, jail looks better than freedom.
The guy obviously would rather be in jail than have to work for a living. All to prevalent in this day and age.

Loser...
Since we no longer feel we need a jail, let's open it to the homeless and turn it over to volunteers. What's going on is sad. I for one will protect my home with a firearm!
sober, educated  are choices better than dope and ignorance. Mr. Weaver should make the big house know and with time to grow up.
All we want is some money. Smart move Weaver!
