Teacher in Ohio may be fired over duct-taped students

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - A northeast Ohio middle-school teacher has until later this week to respond to an allegation that she posted a Facebook photo of her students with their mouths covered with duct tape.
The Akron Public Schools Board of Education voted last week to pursue the firing of Melissa Cairns. She's a math teacher at Buchtel Community Learning Center.
The school district says the photo, posted on Cairn's personal Facebook page, showed some of her students with duct tape across their mouths.
The caption read: "Finally found a way to get them to be quiet!!!"
The district says a colleague of Cairns' notified a supervisor of the photo.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports that Cairns was put on paid leave Oct. 19. She hasn't responded to requests for comment.

I hope no one on that board of education pulled a hammie when they jerked their collective knees.
I am sure it was a innocent prank! some people should'nt have children lol.....
Are you kidding me?  The whole concept of firing the teacher for playing with the children is ludicrous.  It is obvious that the children like the teacher or they would not have voluntarily provoked and went along with the harmless play.  Most likely the children looked up to this teacher because unlike many teachers she is able to put herself on their level.  Children are more likely to respect and to follow instructions of adults that they see as an equal to themselves and a friend verses an adult that they see as someone that thinks the children are lesser than they are and are to be bossed around.  I commend the teacher for having a sense of humor and using a playful spirit to gain the children's respect and friendship.  I do not think the teacher should be fired and the school board should have their own heads and thought processes examined.  As far as duct tape goes, it appears that there is one more use for it now.  Humor!  I worked at mills for years and the mill wrights always carried duct tape with them.  They boasted that they could fix almost anything temporarily with duct tape and silicone and commented further jokingly that the entire mill was held together with duct tape! Â
Can the school board be fired?
Probably just a joke, and again the teacher is to blame for nothing really.
teachers need to keep their hands off of students.
@aaronsgma Do you need to clean the ear wax out of your ears?  If you would have listened or payed attention you would have heard them say that the teacher cut a piece for herself and then the roll of tape was passed to the children and the children placed the pieces of tape over their own mouths.  You are most likely the type of person that children would not like because you don't listen to them.  You apparently hear what you want.  You should pay attention and listen better so you do not make yourself look foolish!
