Vandalism spree hits Eugene shopping center

EUGENE, Ore. - Vandals broke out windows in 5 businesses at the Sheldon Plaza Shopping Center overnight. Police are investigating the damage as possible burglaries.
Glass was knocked out of the windows at Rite Aid, Shamrock Flowers and Gifts, Papa Murphy's Pizza, The Barber Shop and a fifth store.
The businesses cleaned up the glass, boarded up windows and prepared to operate as usual on Friday.
Some of the businesses have surveillance cameras which may help solve the crime.
Anyone with information regarding who may be responsible for the damage are asked to please call the Eugene Police Non-Emergency line at (541) 682-5111.
It seems the bussiness should be able to pitch in and hire a night security person to patrol there stores for a resonable fee.
@native In the olden days, the taxpayer-supported police officers did 'door rattling'; they are too busy to do that today.Â
Busy arresting idiots only to have the jail release them a few hours later? I say the public would be better served by having armed guards. Forget about funding the police. I bet these business owners would be happy to use the public safety funds they pay in taxes alotted to them to fund their own co-op jails and courts. Government sucks at it.
What I mean is to PRIVATIZE law enforcement.
They have a rent-a-cop there during the daytime. Guess they'll have to extend into the night as well. Too bad our tax dollars can't pay for regular police to keep an eye on businesses.   But, today's police officers (except for the one next to campus who is partially paid for by the local businesses) can't get out of their cars unless they see a revenue producing traffic violation or hear shots fired.
