Magazine kudos for Eugene Marathon
The revived Eugene Marathon finds itself in the upper echelon of national running events, at least in one poll.

The January edition of Runner's World Magazine ranks the Eugene Marathon in the top-10 of "up and coming" new marathons in the nation.
Last April's race marked the return of the Eugene-based marathon after it ended in the 1980's.

Organizers say it's more proof that "Track Town U.S.A." is back.

Race Director Richard Maher says the upcoming schedule is impressive for the area. "The U.S. championships in '09 and 11, the NCAA's in 2010, and we get the trials again in 2012. So Eugene is really, it's back as far as running goes and we hope to ride the wave," says Maher.

He adds early registrations for the May 2008 marathon are already 30-percent above the same time last year.
