EUGENE, Ore. - The 75-year-old PeaceHealth building on Willamette Street isn't structurally sound anymore, but employees said it will still be hard to leave the old building behind.
"It's a little sadness in leaving that. There's a lot of legacy in the community about that building," said Henry Veldman, a regional VP for PeaceHealth Medical Group.
But the move is more than just a safety upgrade. Hospital administrators said the good news is that by consolidating at a remodeled University District facility, patients can get more services all under one roof.
"It becomes a one-stop shopping environment, which is much better than what we had in the outlying areas," Veldman said.
The remodel was more than new paint and carpet: patients and staff will now have access to imaging, labs, a new optical shop and a cafeteria.
