Stocking stuffers for the survivalist on your list
EUGENE, Ore. -- No billfolds, no perfume, no jewelry, no ties.
Try field surgery kits, military issue toilet paper and pallet upon pallet of MREs.
For the person who has everything, it's a merry survivalist Christmas at The Epicenter in Eugene, Ore.
The store stocks stocking stuffers for a disaster, like a souped-up Swiss army knife that breaks into two parts.
"You can actually use a knife and a fork at the same time," said Bryan Nelson with Epicenter Supplies LLC. "In a Swiss army knife, you can only use one tool at a time."
The store sells tiny bottles of Tabasco sauce for 79 cents.
"I wonder why we sell so many of them," he said, "but we go through thousands and thousands of them."
Your gift list is not complete without some paperwork -- military issue toilet paper.
"This is the toilet paper that's in military meals ready to eat," Nelson said.
Or handy tiny towels: just add water and they expand into a full-size towel.
Or tri-fold shovels, to dig yourself out of trouble.
And for medical emergencies in the woods, Nelson offers a surgical kit.
"This is a do it yourself kit," he said.
And there are pallets upon pallets of meals ready to eat, or MREs. They sell 10,000 cases every year.
Food for thought this Christmas season.
