KVAL News sweeps awards for investigative reporting

KVAL News earned a 1-2-3 sweep of the 2009 Oregon AP Broadcast Awards for Investigative Reporting in results released Monday. KVAL.com won Best Web site Overall Excellence and Best Breaking News Online.
EUGENE, Ore. -- KVAL News earned a 1-2-3 sweep of the 2009 Oregon AP Broadcast Awards for Investigative Reporting in results released Monday.
And KVAL.com won Best Web site Overall Excellence and Best Breaking News Online from The Associated Press.
The Associated Press announced winners for all categories except for Overall Excellence, Best Newscast and Best Overall Contributor on Monday. Those awards will be announced at the Oregon AP Broadcast Association Convention at the Portland Hilton on April 17, 2010.
Elissa Harrington took first place for investigative reporting for stories on Albany resident Bill Weaver's traffic ticket for running a red light that he thought was green. Weaver was later cleared of the charge, and Harrington's reports were among the exhibits considered by the judge.
KVAL News completed a sweep of the category with a report by Jennifer Winters on ambulance fees for taking patients across a parking lot and a look at the potentially dangerous bacteria left behind in reusable grocery bags reported by Laura Rillos.
Rob Woodward filmed all three of the winning investigative stories.
